Sergio Luis Yanes, MJE, has 18 years of experience teaching and 13 years of experience advising student media. During his tenure, Arvada (Colorado) High School saw the return of a student-led news presence through the Arvada Argos news site and ArHi Sports Media, in addition to continuing a 110-year tradition of yearbook publication, all of which have received several state and national honors and accolades. He has been recognized as a Special Recognition Yearbook Adviser (2022) by JEA as well as a Special Recognition Journalism Adviser (2023) by CSPA, and he has received the JEA Diversity Award (2024). Sergio is passionate about expanding access to media and establishing more equitable and inclusive advising and journalistic practices in student-led media programs. He has served on the boards of CSMA and JEA, and continues to serve as a mentor in the JEA Mentoring Program.
