Ranae Duncan teaches English and Journalism Foundations and advises Gretna East Media (including the Guardian Yearbook and The Wingspan student news site) at Gretna East High School in Omaha, Neb. She is currently a member of the Journalism Education Associationís Awards Committee and is a lead judge for the National Student Media Contests. She sat on the Nebraska High School Press Association board as the Large School Representative and Communications Director from 2018-2023. She started her teaching career in 2010 at Bryan High School in Omaha, Neb. where she taught English for two years followed by a decade of being the journalism teacher and publications adviser. Since becoming a journalism teacher, she has led the updating and rewriting of the journalism curricula for Omaha Public Schools, introduced digital journalism to the district as its own course, and won the 2020 Alice Buffett Outstanding Educator award.
