Peggy Watt is an associate professor of journalism at Western Washington University in Bellingham. She is a longtime member of Society of Professional Journalists and currently on its national education committee, a board member of the Washington Coalition for Open Government and an ardent supporter of student journalism. She reported for several newspapers in the Pacific Northwest before moving to California, where she covered Silicon Valley for business and technology magazines for about 20 years. She completed a master's degree at Stanford University with a thesis on traditional journalism's role in new media. Her first journalism job was as founding editor-in-chief of the Troy InVoice at Auburn High School in Auburn, Washington and she attended WJEA conferences as a high school journalist.
