About
My drive and creativity in the English language and literature have helped me develop analytical and critical thinking skills. My passion for all aspects of English stem from growing up in a low-income area and going to the library for most of my childhood reading books. Every day, I transfer my knowledge to the classroom by teaching 60-200 students per semester, which may seem overwhelming, but it is my most significant contribution to society. I want to develop critical thinkers who can adapt to the changing trends in our world and have compassion, integrity, and drive to succeed in life.
Professionally, I have designed a curriculum that connects authors' backgrounds, real-world situations, and history to the literature. At the community college, I have created assignments that make students analyze beyond the surface level through evaluations of products and media and develop argumentative techniques through research of uncommon subjects. I also brought a newspaper and yearbooks back to life, taught students about the humanities and prepared them for the ACT/SAT.
Going back to school again for my masters in Speech Communication creates new opportunities to expand my students knowledge in English. Obtaining my masters degree from the University of North in Technical Communications allows me to incorporate English education needs to the STEM field students. Additionally, I have a master of arts in English and a bachelor of arts in English with a minor in Education, obtaining an 8-12 English Language Arts and Reading and ESL Supplemental Certification.
