About
Katie Baxter, MJE, is the Student Media Coordinator at Georgia Highlands College in Rome, GA. With 17 years of experience advising nationally award-winning K–12 scholastic journalism programs and serving on the boards of state and national scholastic press associations, she brings a wealth of expertise to her role at Georgia Highlands College, where she advises the Six Mile Post and the Student Spin podcast while teaching courses in Human Communication, Writing for Digital Media, and Introduction to Mass Media.
She previously served as chairperson of the College Media Association’s (CMA) Education Committee, where she led revisions of the CMA Adviser Handbook and spearheaded the revamp of Adviser Certification. Katie is also a current member of the Journalism Education Association Certification Committee and serves as president of the Southeast Journalism Conference (SEJC). Recognized as a 2024 Emerging Adviser by CMA, she is passionate about storytelling and is committed to ensuring that every voice has the opportunity to be heard.
